The datename API is used for two way communication between other places you spend time on the web for updates, and publishing your updates on datename to other places you spend time in the social web.

Anyone with thoughts or experience on this, feel free to chime in. The first thing I want to dig on is whether it requires that a user have a ping.fm account, which would be a pain or whether or not we can post to and receive updates just based on username without a ping.fm account.
